BFA Questions
Brick Floating Informal Lab Report
1) In what ways does this lab relate to what we are learning about in class?
2) Explain, in your own words, what density is? What does it tell you about an object?
3) What designs did you see that worked really well to float a brick? What designs did not work as well as intended? Explain why these worked well or did not work.
4) What other factors (aside from density) might help determine whether or not an object will float?
5) How can you determine what will float when you mix two different materials?
6) If you know that you have a pool of liquid with a density of 1.5g/mL, and you have a solid in the shape of a cube with a side of 2.5cm and a mass of 25g, will the solid float or sink?
7) You might have noticed that the pond water was not pure water – there was a lot of extra stuff mixed in. How would this effect the chances of your BFA floating or not? Be sure to explain why it would have this affect.
