Problem Solving, Technology No Comments »The students have had a busy week; they received their laptops on Monday and are delving into the mysteries of Excel. We’re exploring what Excel can do using formulas: the students are researching conversion rates and making tables of different unit conversions. They also took a water use survey in which Excel was used to calculate their average water use (based on a rainy Saturday at home), which the students found very interesting.

Group Projects
Alice, Problem Solving No Comments »The students have started their Alice group project for the final weeks of the quarter. They have a choice of animating a story with text, creating an interactive game, or a music video. The students will incorporate all of the parameters that they have learned thus far; methods, functions, and events.

Excel
Problem Solving No Comments »Students are learning the Excel program using a self-teaching method. They made unit conversion tables in Excel of various conversions useful everyday (English to metric, monetary, simple formulaic) and were tasked to figure out the Excel formulas for themselves, finding out the unit conversions using Google if they didn’t know them beforehand.
