tollhouse cookies…..give ‘em a shot
Grandma’s Toll-House Cookies
I’ve probably eaten several thousand of these over the years…maybe you can make them as tasty as my Grandma used to…I can come close, but never quite can get them as I remember them……
½ c. brown sugar ½ c. white (granular) sugar
½ c. butter(soften) 1 egg ( when baking,always get eggs to room temperature if
possible
1 ½ c. flour (all-purpose) ½ t. baking soda
¼ t. salt (stir into flour) 2 T. hot water
½ t. vanilla 17 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips(usually, my Grandma put in
more than this….)
Preheat oven to 350 F.
1. Cream butter and sugar in bowl…stir until well mixed
2. Add egg and beat until smooth and creamy
3. Dissolve baking soda in hot water….
4. Add a little flour to batter….mix
5. Add a little of the dissolved Baking soda…..mix
6. More flour…mix
7. More dissolved baking soda….mix
8. More flour….mix
9. Add vanilla and mix
10. Last of flour….mix well (NOTE: always start and end this process with the flour……)
11. NOW…add chocolate chips (eat some if you like!) and mix batter
12. Grease cookie tray….use Pam, it works well and is easier than using butter…..
13. Use a Tablespoon and drop batter onto cookie sheet…leave a little space between cookies
14. Bake at 350….watch them….when brown check them……..each oven is different….baking time will vary…..
15. Let cool on a rack(you want air circulating above and below the cooling cookie…..)
16. My Grandma would have just enough dough to hold together the chips….
17. Optional: ½ c. chopped nuts (walnuts work well) add them with choc, chips
