Homework: Duck habitat photographs were due today. Each student should research the medium he/she has chosen and make a few notes. If you are undecided about the medium, research several and your research  may help you decide. Many of the websites include video clips from YOU TUBE that you can not see at school. You may want to search on “How to paint with oil pastels” or “How to work with colored pencils” etc.

Eighth graders should check out a computer and bring it to class with you tomorrow, Tuesday.

Sixth and seventh grade students are using their laptops to look at duck images and to do research on habitat. They are beginning to think about the composition of their stamps. We have a number of great duck mounts from which to draw.

Homework: Duck applications should be signed by students and parents and turned into the teacher. Students should be taking photographs of possible duck habitat areas and or folliage. Photographs are due by Monday.

Students researched various types of ducks and geese. The Canada Goose (Branta canadensis), the Gadwall (Anas stepera), The Green-winged Teal (Anas crecca), The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), the Northern Pintail (Anas acuta), the Blue- winged Teal (Anas cyanoptera), the Canvasback (Aythya valisineria) and the Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) are among the ducks students are studying. Jordan brough his beautiful Canvasback for us to draw. Thank you Jordan and family.

Sixth and seventh grade students should be bring their own pencil and their laptop to class everyday. Students were given applications for the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest to be signed. I am giving points for having that form signed and turned in to me tomorrow. I have asked students to take photographs with their laptops or a camera of areas of water or woods where ducks might be seen. You  are not required to take photographs of ducks but that would certainly be a very positive thing.

Students continue to write original poetry and design cards for Valentine’s Day.

Those who have not completed the printing will have some class time and x-period on Wednesday and Friday to finish.

We are looking for duck mounts so that students can see the actual ducks that they are drawing. If you know of one we might borrow, please let me know. We will take extreme care with it..

HOMEWORD: Bring your original love or friendship poems to class. If possible, center and  print them in a nice script or other font between 14 and 24 pts. You may want to Google: Making a Card in Word.

You may print during x period only.

1. PROOF: Your first set of prints will be your proofs (we will sign these in class together)

2. ALTER YOUR PLATE: Evaluate your proof prints and improve your design.

• Look at the composition.
• Have you created pattern, rhythm, movement, balance?
• Is your space interesting?
• Think about the textures that are interesting.
• Look at other student’s prints. Ask about the textures that are interesting.

3. CHIN COLLE: Everyone should have a set of Chin colle prints.

• Use one of your prints and the light table to cut the tissue paper.
• Cut at least 4 sets

• Repeat the tissue paper in several places, if possible

4.  EDITION:Print and edition of 3 if you do not already have 3 good prints.

5. CREATIVE WORK: Look through your prints and select several that are not acceptable for grading.  (Be sure to keep your best proofs)

Draw, cut, collage be creative in using your print to create a new piece of art. Think- out- of- the box. It may be 2 or 3 dimensional.

HOMEWORK: Write an original love or friendship poem. Due Friday. Bring poem to class with you.

If you have not printed a proof of your plate you are behind and will begin loosing points. Work at home or plan to stay after school to get caught up. See me to arrange a time.
