Students elect to take art at the 7th grade level. In this course students explore basic techniques and materials. The course is designed to introduce the students to a variety of media while focusing on the elements and principles of design. Students may research how current or master artists have used the same or similar approaches, media or techniques to solve an artistic problem comparable to one they are asked to resolve. Projects are shown at various competitions and exhibits including the Fine Arts Night that concludes each semester.

Students elect to take art at the eighth grade level The course builds on the skills and knowledge learned in the sixth and seventh grade art classes but is not limited to students who have elected art prior to the eighth grade. Having become comfortable with various media and techniques and the foundation principles and elements of design, the student now has the opportunity to move on to more challenging problems while developing more advanced skills and techniques. Student work may include drawing, painting, graphic design, printmaking, hand built pottery, and sculpture.

Students elect to take art at the sixth grade level. The art teacher meets with the students for forty minutes every day. The sixth grade art class is designed to build on the material learned in the lower school. With a hands- on approach, students explore the Elements and Principles of Design in their own work and in the work of other artists. Students will begin to analyze, critique and make informed judgements about the work they see and create.
