7th and 8th Grade Art Classes – Batik
Students photographed their pets and drew the pets on large paper for the batik designs. They then transferred the designs to the cotton fabric. Value and color are elements of design that will play a key roll in working with the batiks. Student waxed the white areas on the fabric and dyed the cloth in the lightest color. This is repeated until the entire design is dyed. The wax is then ironed out of the fabric and the fabric is rewaxed onto a piece of mat board and framed.
