Algebra Monomials and Polynomials

We were adding and subtracting polynomials; now we can multiply monomials and polynomials and divide them back out (factoring). This is going to be a great help with solving quadratic equations!

Homework for Wednesday is to do problems pp 672-73 from section 11-3, #15-20 and problems pp 678-79 from section 11-4, #11-15,18-21

Transitions Quiz

Quiz Thursday over sections 4,5,6,7 of Chapter 4. Practice those equations with all the variables! Rework some of the ones we’ve done already that you have answers to. Use the practice on the blog.

Homework for Wednesday night is to study for the quiz over sections 4,5,6,7 of Chapter 4.

Algebra Vocab

We had lots of vocabulary today about polynomials, monomials and the degree of monomials and polynomials. Lots to keep up with.

Homework for Tuesday night is to read section 11-2, pp 663-66, #3-10, 14-24. Review quiz Wed.

Transitions Review

We have finished sections 4,5,6,7 since our last quiz so we are ready for review and preparation for a quiz on Thursday over these four sections. The first two sections are review of solving, section 6 has some situations which may have no solutions or all real numbers as solutions.

Homework for Tuesday night is to finish the review sheets in preparation for the quiz on Thursday over sections 4,5,6,7 of Chapter 4. Review quiz Wed

Transitions Equations with Variables

We have finished the sections of Chapter 4 that are review and are beginning the new material. Today we solved equations with several variables, getting one variable alone and making a formula in terms of other variables.

Homework for Monday night is to read section 4-7, pp 221-24, #4-10, 13,14

Homework for the week:

Tuesday: finish review sheets covering sections 4,5,6,7 of Chapter 4 in preparation for a quiz on Thursday. Review quiz Wed.

Wednesday: Study for quiz over sections 4,5,6,7. quiz Thursday.

Thursday: Section 4-8. No homework for Fine Arts Night.

Friday: Read section 4-8, p 432, #1-16.

Algebra Polynomials

We are beginning polynomials in chapter 11. Adding and subtracting polynomials is review but now we will be setting up word problems into big polynomials.

Homework for Monday night is to read section 11-1, pp 656-61, #2,11,15-21. Also get progress reports signed.

Homework for the week:

Tuesday: Read section 11-2, pp 663-66, #3-10,14-24 Review quiz on Wednesday

Transitions Inequalities

Not inequalities among students! Inequality sentences and word problems to solve. We looked at ways to use solving steps and tables and graphs to solve word problems. We also reminded ourselves about how to switch the direction of the inequality when we are dividing by a negative.

Homework for Thursday is to read section 4-5, pp 210-13, #1,4-10,13

Algebra Test Chapter 10 Friday

Whew! We have been practicing lots of graphing and word problems and situations in which we need the quadratic formula! Practice things from the blog to test yourself. There is chapter review as well which has answers to odd-numbered problems in the back of the book – that is also good practice.

Homework for Thursday night is to study for the Chapter 10 test (omit sections 7,8).

Algebra test Friday

Our test over Chapter 10 systems is Friday. We have different methods of solving and we have graphed different types of equations and inequalities to see where they intersect.

Homework for Wednesday night is to do the self test on pp 648-49, but omit #7,8,9 (since we skipped sections 7,8). Test Friday

Transitions Equations

We are practicing solving equations with variables on both sides. This is something we’ve done some of before so we can put fractions and multiplying through and distributive in with it now.

Homework for Wednesday night is to read section 4-4, pp 202-06, #7-20
